Cornucopia
Let's start with an aplogy.... This website will probably never be completed as it's used to test various ideas and techniques in a live environment.
At the moment, there is:-
- Planetfood - an example of an online store, which you can select to view the catalogue by category and product name. The shopping cart is still a bit further away and really needs me to develop the user log-in and registration process to make any sensible progress.
- Three sisters - Britannic, Olympic and Titanic - one ship
sank after hitting an iceberg; the second was torpedoed and sank and the
third rammed and sank
a German
submarine.
I've been fascinated by the Titanic since my schooldays in the 60s when one of our teachers told us that he could remembered the Titanic being built when he was a boy in Belfast. Obviously, the 1997 film by James Cameron resurrected this interest.
I want to bring together different strands to this story. No great technology here just finding an interesting way to bring you this story. For example, the best-selling novel in 1898 featured the largest ship in the world hitting an iceberg and sinking. This was 14 years before Titanic's maiden voyage. The ship in the novel was the "RMS Titan"... creepy!! - User selectable styles - An easy way to change an OK website into a migraine inducing vision.! Select the standard design or risk "canaries in custard" or "frog on a leaf".
To come...
- Codes and Enigma...
- The shopping cart!!
- User login to Planetfood
Incidentally, the website uses a MySQL database and I'm programming the pages with PHP and HTML plus a tiny bit of Javascript.. and the code is all written by me!!
